Update : Feb. 01, 2013
Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) has adopted the way of classification which consists of 33 industry sectors defined by the Securities Identification Code Committee (hereinafter "the 33 sectors" ) for classifying the listed company by industry and calculated the statistics by the 33 sectors and announced them. We can say, in general, the 33 sectors is widely used and fixed in Japanese stock market now.
On the other hand, there is an opinion that using the 33 sectors is difficult in the international comparison because it is unique classification in Japan when we take into account the recent active cross-border investment. Therefore, we focus on GICS, which is widely used in the world as the method of the classification by industry, and have tried the calculation based on it of the major statistics by the 33 sectors.
