TSE has compiled the statistics on dates of Annual General Shareholders Meetings for companies which settle accounts in March 2011. A summary of the statistics is as below.
-Every year, the highest concentration of annual general shareholders meetings of companies which settle accounts in March occurs on "the business day before the last business day of June" (If this day falls on Monday, this occurs on the Friday of the previous week). This year, 707 (41.2%) out of 1,718 companies included in the statistics are scheduled to hold their annual general shareholders meetings on June 29 (Wed.) which is "the business day before the last business day of June".
-The rate of concentration on the day has fallen 1.4 points year-on-year, and annual general shareholders meeting dates are gradually becoming more spread out (the highest rate of concentration on record is 96.2% for March 1995).
-The companies which hold their annual general shareholders meetings earliest are, Scroll Corporation (1st Section, account settlement on March 31) on May 27, followed by TRUSCO NAKAYAMA CORPORATION (1st Section, account settlement on March 31) on June 10. (CAWACHI LIMITED which held its annual general shareholders meeting on June 8, settled its accounts on March 15, while another company which held its annual general shareholders meeting on June 10, YASKAWA INFORMATION SYSTEMS Corporation settled its accounts on March 20.)
-Two companies announced that it will postpone its annual general shareholders meetings to July due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. (YAMAYA CORPORATION (1st Section, account settlement on March 31) and TOYO KNIFE CO., LTD. (2nd Section, account settlement on March 31))
In order to create an environment which further facilitates the exercise of voting rights at annual general shareholders meetings, TSE requests listed companies to make efforts to avoid holding annual general shareholders meetings on a day on which other listed companies' annual general shareholders meetings are significantly concentrated (Rule 437, Item 1 of the Enforcement Rules for Securities Listing Regulations). TSE will continue to encourage listed companies to cooperate in further improving the environment for exercising voting rights, including spreading out their annual general shareholders meetings.
